Red Paper Kite

It is morning in the big castle. The sun shines, and flags wave. Princess Penny laughs, Prince Aaron jumps, and the castle's gate stands open.

There is a red paper kite. Small and light, it flutters. The wind blows, and the kite takes off.

— Wait, kite! — says Penny. — Wait, red friend! — says Aaron. They run. They run.

They run through the courtyard. Shoes knock on the stone. The cook, in a white hat and checkered apron, waves. — It flew that way! — he says.

At the bridge they stop. The water glitters. A duck quacks. — Did you see it? — asks Penny. — Quack! That way! — quacks the duck.

In the garden there is the scent of apples. Green grass grows, and a red apple gleams. The red kite is up high, nestled in the apple tree.

The tree is high. Too high. Aaron stretches. Penny stretches. They don't reach it.

Berry, the brown pony, comes. He has a soft mane and a warm nose. — Do you help? — asks Aaron. Berry nods.

Penny climbs up. Aaron holds her, and Berry stands steady. Penny reaches out, grabs the string. — Got you! — she laughs.

They go back to the meadow. The wind blows, and the kite dances. Penny holds it. Aaron holds it. They hold it together.

The kingdom smiles. The castle looks. The flags wave. The pony snorts. The duck quacks.

The kite is red. The sun is warm. The heart is light. Penny and Aaron laugh. Again. And again.
