Helen Beatrix Potter (28 July 1866 – 22 December 1943) was an English author, illustrator and naturalist. She is best known for the tales of Peter Rabbit and other animal characters, illustrated in her distinctive hand-drawn style. Potter was also active in conservation and donated large areas of land in the Lake District to the National Trust.
