The Secret of the Lemonade Fountain

In the Kingdom of Tinkleburg, the castle towers stood tall like colorful, cheerful ice cream cones. In the middle of the grand courtyard, the famous lemonade fountain glittered golden by day. Its splashing, lemon-yellow juice bubbled merrily, and its sweet scent drifted across the courtyard like a cheerful tune.

Princess Lily, wearing little red boots, and Prince Mike, whose blue cloak fluttered, were flicking pebbles from the well's rim into the water. Suddenly, the lemonade fountain coughed out a loud, "Hick!" – and then fell silent. No splashing, no bubbling, just a tiny pop.

"Oh no, our lemonade fountain!" Lily exclaimed, her heart sinking. "We must see what happened," Mike said, already starting towards it.

The King and Queen looked around anxiously, while the servants stood by, clueless. Vince, the court guard, pointed with his searching gaze to sticky spots on the stone.

"Here, someone left lemon footprints," said Vince. "The splashing stopped because of these."

Lily and Mike smiled. "Traces!" they shouted at once. Buddy, the castle's brown dog, joined them, his tail wagging as he began to sniff. The sticky, sugary footprints wound across the courtyard, leading towards the garden. They passed among rose bushes, next to fragrant lavender where bees buzzed diligently.

At the end of the path, a big tapestry depicting lemons hung on the wall. From behind it, a quiet, strange sound was heard: "Hick... pfff... prrr!" Lily pulled aside the tapestry, revealing a tiny, round door. Mike pressed the handle down, and they stepped into the secret pipe room, where copper pipes wound like golden snakes.

Inside the room, at the mouth of a pipe, a tiny green dragon crouched. His scales glittered as if made of lime peel, and with every hiccup, he puffed out lemon-scented bubbles.

"Who are you?" Lily asked kindly. "I am P... Puff," sniffled the dragon. "I peeked into this shiny pipe, thinking it was a cave. Then I tasted a bit... and now I'm stuck. I'm sorry!"

Mike squatted down. "No problem, Puff. We'll help you get out." "Just don't be scared," added Lily, taking two honey scones from her pocket. "Do you like these?"

Puff's nose twitched and glittered. "Just a crumb..."

Lily carefully held the scone to the edge of the pipe. Mike took his little brush and gently stroked the sticky sugar from Puff's wing. Buddy crept over and softly licked the syrup from Puff's paw. Meanwhile, the dragon hiccuped tiny sounds: "Hick! Hick! Pffff!" – and after every 'hick,' a lemon-yellow bubble floated up.

"Alright, one... two... three!" counted Mike, as he gently helped Puff slip out of the pipe's mouth. The little dragon was finally free. He swung his wing and bit into the scone.

"Thank you!" Puff beamed. "Can you restore the splashing?"

"Let's try," nodded Lily.

Mike looked for the big copper ring on the wall. "I think this must be turned," he said. Lily looked at the pipe, where the sticky stuff still glittered. "First, we wipe it off," she decided. With a soft rag, they scrubbed the pipe shiny. Mike grabbed the ring and carefully turned it.

First, only a deep "glug" was heard. Then, with a joyful "Chirib-chiribah!" the lemonade began to splash! The room filled with the scent of fresh lemon, and outside, bubbles laughed up into the air.

Lily and Mike ran out to the courtyard. The fountain glittered golden again, and the children started to clap. The King and Queen nodded, smiling.

"That was wonderful, my children!" said the King. "And who is this kind little dragon?"

"I am Puff, and I am very sorry for the trouble," blinked the dragon.

"If you'd like, stay with us," suggested Lily. "You could be the kingdom's Bubble Master!"

Puff's ear twitched. "Bubble Master? That sounds good!"

So Puff stayed. On every holiday, he blew lemon-scented bubbles into the air, which slowly danced in the sunshine. The people laughed, Buddy chased the bubbles, Mike guarded the fountain's ring, and Lily checked every day to ensure the pipes were clean.

Finally, Lily sipped her lemonade, and a tiny lemon seed landed on her nose. "Atchoo!" she sneezed, at which the whole court broke out in laughter. The fountain splashed, the sun shone warmly, and in Tinkleburg, everything was in order.
