Sammy Hedgehog walks. The warm sun shines. The grass is soft.
Katie Duck comes along. She waddles, waddles. "Quack-quack!" says Katie. "Sniff-sniff," sniffs Sammy.
A ball rolls by. It is red and spotted. It rolls, rolls, rolls.
Sammy runs. Katie waddles. The ball bounces. "Hop! Hop!" says the ball.
The ball reaches the puddle. The water splashes. Splash, splash, splash! Katie waddles in and pushes it. Sammy waits carefully. He doesn't poke; he just flicks it with his nose.
The ball hides in the high grass. The grass rustles. Rustle-rustle-rustle. Nelly Bunny jumps forward. "Should I help?" asks Nelly. Sammy nods. Katie nods too.
One, two, hop! They push together. First a little push, then a big one. The ball is free! Thump, thump, thump.
Now Sammy rolls it. Now Katie rolls it. Now Nelly rolls it. Round and round it goes. It goes right. It goes left. They all laugh. Heeheehee.
The wind whispers. The grass caresses. The ball is red. The play is good. Once more. Once more. Once more.
The ball rests. The friends rest too. Sammy smiles. Katie quacks. Nelly claps. Tomorrow, the spotted ball will roll again.
The end
